to plant a seed will make it grow
protect it when the crows are by
and fertilize when growing slows
then water when the sky is dry
but let the seed go on it's own
allowing it some space to breathe
when you go off sad and alone
mutations in the seed will seethe
so on the day that you return
to garden patch or fallow field
no rose nor flower to discern
no loving bud nor floral yield
but thorny vines in filligree
with anger growing wild and free
---
the restaurant down the street serves dinner
to dying men who scream and cry at the straight
faced waitresses in white starched suits
the food is all wrong, some say
send it back to the kitchen and make it right
and others stay silent staring
at steamed scrambled eggs
sour jam on crusty toast
bruised melon and coffee scraped
from the bottom of the pot
while they eat and eat
and eat
until there is nothing left
but the rind

Getting Fit 2013
fat clots my heart stop
running and die the rain
will keep the sweat off
and pain will still be better
sore limbs tired body
for my bones don't yet creak
and i have no love
so why should i need these handles
---
the ghostly carvings
all distorted by growth read
like brail under my fingertips
love stories by long dead lovers
on this long living tree
being pondered on by passers by
and rendered out by me
